Ernest's Expeditions

Picture
the first expedition Ernest went on  was the national exploration. (also known as the also known as the discovery expedition)  this expeditions goal was to cross the Ross sea and land on the Ross ice shelf. all thought this was there goal is was not there fist priority in mind. the real purpose is unknown but it is said to be they were just exploring a part on the antartic sea and were the fisrt to go from the ross sea to the ross ice shelf and make it to land alive or at least to acheived this goal at all.

the next expidition ernest crew went on was the british antartic expidition. ernest had organized this sail to the antartic in 1907 and they stayed there until 1909. the orignal goal was to reach the south pole. ( this expidition is well known as the nimrod expidition) the base for this  expidition on Ross island, near the south pole. to transport him and his crew around the island they used horse, which did not turn out to be very useful because of there slipping hooves. that made traveling for tiring and slow. ernest achieved many things throughout this journey to the south, he achieved goods such as the first ascend of  Mount Erubis, the active volcano of ross island, the place where the magnetic south pole lay, and finding the Beardmore glacier passage. the team returned to england with praise and gained a high status for a few years.

the third most known expidition ernest and his team made was the imperal trans-antaric expidition.them team set sail on august,1 ,1914. they hoped to antartic from the vahsel bay on the south side of the Weddell sea, reach the south pole and then continue to to ross island on the opposite side of the continent. tis goal had to be failed when the ship was stuck in the ice, which was later crushed by the ice's presure. this mad e them not achieve this expidtion but they all got home  safely by building there own boats and traveling to south geogia to get help. ernest earned only a couple of good things during this failed expidtion. he was one of the first people to cross the Weddell sea and make it out alive with that type of harsh weather in that area and getting to the elephant islands and setting up a base.

the last expidition ernest and his crew made was the called the final expidtion. it would have not been his last is he hadnt died of a heart attack on his way to the south pole again. not alot happened on this journey because he died before he could make it to wherever he was going in the antartic area. his body was shipped back to england but his widow wife insisted that he have his burial in south georgia.
